ARCHERY ETIQUETTE

SETTING UP AND CLEARING AWAY

All participating archers are expected to help with setting up at the start of the shoot or clearing away at the end.

In order to enable for that to happen setting up for afternoon sessions starts at:

>  12.30 pm on Fridays and Sundays afternoons to be ready for 1 pm

>  5.45 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings (April to the end of September) to be ready for 6 pm

>  9.30 pm on Saturday mornings (every two weeks, but please check WhatsApp) to be ready for 10 pm

Members should not set up their equipment until the field is fully set up and must not pack away their equipment until the field has been fully cleared away.

For various unavoidable circumstances members might arrive late but should make sure they are present at the end of the shoot to clear away.  If members have to leave early they should make the Line Captain aware.

Setting up the field involves:

  • setting out the shooting line and measuring line
  • setting out the targets
  • putting out flags and lines
  • making sure the defibrillator or key is available on the field.

When clearing away can all equipment please be returned to where it is normally stored in the clubhouse to avoid unnecessary obstruction.

If members are not sure what any of the above require they should ask a committee member.

Members who might find lifting targets difficult should try to help with other tasks

Members should not assume having done one quick task they can leave everything else to everybody else. When a small number of members might be there for a shoot the work of setting up and clearing away needs to be shared fairly.

ON THE SHOOTING LINE

Do not talk loudly while others are shooting and don’t make exclamations that could startle other archers.

When an archer is doing a score for an award of any kind they should not be spoken to or coached on the line not just in competitions.

Do not walk up and down the line comparing scores and do not approach or leave the shooting line when another archer is at full draw.

Never touch another archer’s equipment without their permission.

If you break another archer’s arrow you are responsible for paying for the breakage.

When calling scores do so in groups of three and in descending order.

Do not go behind the target to retrieve arrows before the scores have been recorded.

Stand back from the shooting line while waiting and ensure your arrows are in your quiver.

If you see a potential danger call out “fast” to get everyone’s attention.

Don’t leave litter and be mindful of your space by considering other archers

Do not presume you can just join a target boss, always ask first.

Always stay with the last archer on the line, don’t leave them alone.

Offer to help find lost arrows and notify the Line Captain if you are unable to find one.

PLEASE NOTE
The above statements apply to our weekly club sessions, club competitions and the two open competitions we host each year.
